This weekend we purchased the toshiba A130 loaded with windows vista. I deleted some of the programs that i wouldn't use and added my printing software with no problems. But when I tried to load my Pinnacle software I received the following message. "Access denied, insufficient rights-to install software you must have administrative rights. Please log on as Administrator and start the installation again." At that time I was the only user and already WAS the administrator. I called toshiba and spent a very long and frustrating time NOT getting helped. I tried a few more things on my own but admittedly I have very limited computer skills. Can anyone help me Thanks!

Can you try to righ-click on the Pinnacle software and select "Run As Administrator"

The only pop up box that I get besides the 'Access Denied' box is the DVD RW Drive (D:) Studio. Install or run program. When I tried right clicking on that, I got the ' restore-move-size-minimize ect. It did not give me any options click on 'Run as Administrator'. I know the problem is not the disk because I put it in my husbands computer to check it out. I have tried creating another account so that there would be another user besides me as the administrator. I also tried creating a password since I had not turned that option on. Neither of these things helped. Thanks for your suggestion and anything else anyone can think of would be much appreciated.

I have the same problem exactly. It's on a top of the line HP running Vista (not the beta version). I have only one account (the administrator) but no matter what I do, when trying to install Pinnacle Studio 9 it gives me the same error message. If you discover the solution, please post it here. I will do the same, of course. This software runs fine on my Window XP machine.

It sounds like the dialog is being generated by the application itself. Find the application setup file and right click on it and "run as administrator". The program may be doing some hard check on what it thinks is a good test for figuring out if it need admin rights and is getting an access denied.

Also, If possible try to get a newer version of the software that either has "Works with Windows Vista" or "Certified for Windows Vista" logo.

I also use Pinnacle Studio Media Suite 10.5.

The version 9 is NOT vista compatible. You must upgrade to 10.5, and Pinnacle's website says there is an update expected by March, 2007 to ensure full compatibility with Vista.

If Robert is correct, and I am sure that he is, it is very disappointing. I know it's an older version but I hardly got to use it because I was backpacking for 6 months not that long after I bought it. I guess I'll have to hope that the update fixes the problem I guess. Umm, it's terribly awkward being computer illiterate but how would I have followed Bruces suggestion I tried going into the computer to the drive, I saw Pinnacle there and right clicked on it but it just said run program , copy etc. I know it probably feels like you guys are talking to a toddler but I had no idea how to find the application setup file but I would like to if anyone has a few minutes to waste on me
Thanks to everyone who helped or tried to help me.

Give this a try:

Explore the Studio 10.5 install disk and navigate to inside the Studio Vista Installer directory. Right click welcome.exe and choose Run as Administrator. Follow the prompts, and everything should install fine. You'll then want to pull the latest patch from http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/S10_8_0_4527_light_InterimDownload.htm (as of 2/26, but there will be another soon if they're on a typical Tuesday patch schedule). This is a Vista compatible Beta, so you may get some Beta issues. It works for me so far, but I haven't pushed it hard. I'll be a lot more comfortable when they get a 100% real Vista solution.

Hope this helped!

If you have an older software that is incompatible with Vista, Microsoft provides a program called Virtual PC. It's basically like a separate computer within a window. You can run XP as the operating system there and then run the incompatible software there with the same access to your printer etc.

Sorry, User1000. I tried to reply, but I mis-keyed and was misdirected.

According to http://www.pinnaclesys.com/Vista/vista_video.asp you may need to upgrade to Pinnacle Studio Verison 10.x. I had to upgrade as well, because I was told Studio 9 was not compatable with Vista...So, I did. HOWEVER, I now find that Studio Version 10.6 does have some issues. When one drops and drags a menu (still background or motion) to the timeline, it only creates an audio file--albeit a blank one, and no video, no menu, "no nuthin'." The alledged "patch" for this is a BETA, and it has expired.

I hope this helps in, at least, providing an insight on what is happening. The good news: You can upgrade to Studio 10 (IF THE SPECIAL IS STILL GOING ON) for around $30.00. The (possible) bad news: The upgrade is not a cure-all. There is still some sort of comfliction with the program (which brings me to my next topic...).

Does anyone have a solution to Pinnacle Studio 10 Plus Version 10.6 will not properly drop & create a menu with Vista I'm desperate because I have a video project that now is a month because my old computer died, I plopped 2Gs to get a new system with Vista, and now I'm having software issues in Pinnacle, just when I can see the finish line.

To quote a line from the Matrix: "No, not like this....Not like this."

Help!

Re: Access Denied insufficient rights

Super Panasonic

The upgrade to Pinnacle Studio 10 Plus Version 10.7 will allow the menus to drop on the timeline, but the menus are not interactive after you burn to DVD...Which defeats the whole purpose of interactive menus. I'm still seeking help from Pinnacle on this...but I feel like I'm going round and around on a turnabout. If anyone out here has the solution to this for me, please lay the science on me! Thanks!
