Hi!
I have the exact same problem, but with an LG S1 Express Dual with an ATI Mobility X1600, and this happens with 32bit edition.
As this happens with 2 different laptops, from different vendors, I believe the problem is not BIOS, and because there are two completely different graphic cards, the problem is not drivers...
Which leave us with the OS.
Oh, and by the way, this has been happening with the majority of laptops I've seen, independently from the board's brand or the graphic's brand and model. The only laptop I've seen WITHOUT this problem is an old HP X1010 with an old ATI Mobility 9200. I must add that that model still has the little button that turns off the screen visible. I don't know how do the new models work in that aspect, but seeing from my audio jacks, which are completely controled by software (from Realtek), and without proper program they don't work, I assume that the problem is there, in the switch. It turns of the screen only, but it's up to the SO to send the order to resume. The older switch/button worked like an presence light from a refrigerator: when the button is pressed, it cuts the circuit of the light. At least it's how I see it (I'm a student of the Computer Engineering course :P)
I know it's troublesome to solve this type of bugs, but probably it's solution has something to do with the actions of waking up from sleep mode (when it refreshes the graphic card, or initializes it).
Cheers :)
Pedro.
