I've seen reports of Access and VISTA errors, but mine is a little different.
When I tried to open an Access database, Vista seems to halt... then after a long while, Vista reports it can't find the file,
but in the background, the file has began to open, but is asking me to verify I want to open the DB, because it MIGHT
have some security issues.
I can canel the first message, and continue with the DB application.
Any ideas on how to fix this

I didn't find anything here to help. I am running one Vista PC, and the Access and the DB is on the local machine. This happens on about 20 databases. and they all work fine under XP.
I tried the Regedit and setting SMB2 to zero last week, that had no effect
The database is locating on a machine that is running Vista or XP. Because that link was taking care things if the shared database is on Vista PC
turning off UAC made the error come up quickly, it still says it can't find the file (while it's open in the background)
I have found that I can open Access first, then browse to the file, and open it with that error.
The problem must be in the way Vista is using the desktop shortcut to the database file.
Any more good ideas What about the UAC being turned off Is it a security problem I should worry about
I will try to reproduce the problem so i can try a few things. Can you give me more info about what steps to follow Is there any antivirus programme active Norton, Kaspersky etc
Thanks. Norton's Internet Security (60 days only) cam with my new system. Lately I have turned off both the Auto Protect and Personal Firewall. This particular problem seems to be uneffective by Norton's being on or off.

When I double click my shortcut for an Access Database I get and error something like this.
The error's Title is "C:\projects\scrab.mdb" and the message says
"Windows cannot find 'C:\projects\scrab.mdb'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."
The file "C:\projects\scrab.mdb" is open in the background, and works fine after I close the error message.
Before I turned off the UAC in the users control panel, it would take about 5 to 10 minutes to give me the error message.
During this time it would appear to do nothing. Now with UAC off, the error comes up immediately.
The error occurs for all .MDB files no matter what the path. The error does not occur if I open access and browse to the file. I have removed the trial Office 2007's Word and Excel (if did not have 2007 Access), then reinstalled MS Office with Access 2003.
Just now I used Explorer Reassociate .MDB with MSAccess ...the redo the "Open with" and broswed to MSAccess.EXE and made sure "Always use this" and the error did NOT occur, but when I double clicked the shortcut, I get the same error again.
No, I have not installed Foxfire or any alternate browser.
I noticed that I can point to an .mdb file in explorer and choose OPEN WITH... then choose MS Access, The file then opens without the error. Also when I use OPEN WITH... MS Access is the only program on the list of files to choose from.

I have the same problem, but in XP Pro. I did find that if I dragged the shortcut to the quicklaunch toolbar it opened without a hitch, but the problem is still there in the desktop shortcut.
Why in the hell did microsoft change the look of it office softwares in Vista. It's next to impossible to use. It looks like a cheap imitation of poor mans software's since they change how to interface with the software. I've use MS Office product for over 15 years. NowI guess it's time to find software that won't change functionality and user interface every time they change operating systems. What a *** thing to do.
Does anone know how to make Office softwares look the way they did on XP or any operating system prior to VISTA
