    - Vista API problems.... Hi, I have installed Vista home premium in both the 32 and 64 bit flavours on my development machine. The company I work for produces CAD software for the electronics industry. There are a couple of issues under vista which need immediate attention. Our application is a plain 'C' Win32 MDI SDK application (themed with manifest). I have implemented docking windows and toolbars ala VS .NET 2003 in our application. Firstly: The AnimateWindow API doesn't work correctly under Vista. Under XP and 2000 when the window hides the screen content underneath is kept. Under Vista it becomes corrupted, and you just see the "edge" of the window that has auto-hidden. The windows underneath appear to get no messages whatsoever from the API call, so I have no chance to redraw them. Is this API call completely broken under Vista Secondly: SetScrollnfo on a MDI child under Vista 64 doesn't work for a themed application. When you call it, the scrollbar for the MDI child reverts to a non-themed "display". When you hover the mouse over it, it fades into the themed version but in totally the wrong place. This API call does work correctly under Vista 32, so it's something specific to Vista 64. At present I cannot find any workarounds for either of these problems. I could implement my own version of AnimateWindow which would work as it did under 2000 and XP, but I've got better things to be getting on with. I cannot find a resolution at all to the mdi-child scrollbar issue. It's just very broken. Thanks. Adrian Tag: DVD re-writer drive is not working

    - Compatibility settings not working after uninstall / reinstall That is very odd behavior. Since removing the key on uninstall and recreating it when reinstalled. It should be just like the fresh install and work. Are you doing this through an MSI Custom action Basically can you post enough information to help me recreate this This sounds like it may be an issue! But it also sound like there might be some not getting tirggered to set another regsetting for the ELEVATECREATEPROCESS to work on the newly installed application. As an alternative you can create a shim db for your software to cause elevation. Then distribute the shim db with your app when it's installed. A shim db is intended to be a more permanate midigation that remains installed for all users. A shim db can created using the ACT 5.0 Compatibility Manager. Documentaion on how to install a shim db is in the ACT Help. Please, never redistribute a shim db file with your application. It is much safer (i.e. you the ISV know exactly what is going on) if you modify your code. Microsoft strongly discourages that any ISV redistribute a shim db Using reg setting is more of a quick and convient way for users. The reg setting is used by the exe property - compatiblity tab. For this reason it makes sense that an old reg setting doesn't work for a new install. But if the next re-install sets the reg setting again one would think that it should work. One more thing to check is the compatiblity tab from the exe properties. Testing here indicates that the SQL Dependency approach, hooked into a Windows Service, is viable. I'm also looking at going the SQL Service Broker route.     - Problem with custom Credential Provider and expired password Hello, I wrote a “full” credential provider for Windows Vista that manages various scenarios as CPUS_LOGON, CPUS_UNLOCK_WORKSTATION and CPUS_CHANGE_PASSWORD. They all works well , and I can see my “Change Password” credential when I choose “Change Password” option from CAD display . The problem is that I don’t know how to catch “password expired” case on CPUS_LOGON scenario. I was able to get ntStatus message on my Credential ReportResult method , but… then What can I do next In this case LogonUI shows two buttons : one is labeled “OK” , the other is labeled “CANCEL”. I saw that “CANCEL” button goes back to CAD screen, but “OK” button seems to do nothing….     - ContentBox size - how to set it, how is it getting set if I get a page from a DocumentPaginator created like this: DocumentPaginator paginator = ((IDocumentPaginatorSource)doc).DocumentPaginator; Then it also has the ContentBox smaller than the actual size, even though I thought the thing was supposed to have an offset of (0,0) by default and the width and height the same as the page.     - PROBLEM Installing Vista on a Toshiba TECRA A4 Hi, Im looking for some kind of little help. I have run the Windows Upgrade Advisor to see if my Notebook is Vista Compatible. The answer was "Yes" but with a "yellow exclamation mark" regarding "Toshiba Utilities". Is a program to manager some basic features such as the windows fan. Since I have .unistalled it I am still receiving the same error when I run the test again. Is there any kind of solution When I made the upgrade the screen freezes and the vista running mark stopped. I have to format the disk and reinstall XP again. Any help will be kindly appreciated. By the way on Toshiba’s web page there is nothing about how to solve this problem. Tks.     - Pictures at the begining an at the end of the designer Hi, I have rehosted the designer and I have drawn special bitmaps at the begining and at the end of the workflow in the OnPaint of the from the SequentialWorkflowRootDesigner derived class. There are such bitmaps in the Designer Rehosting sample, but... ... When my workflow is being loaded, the activities are positioned at first not after the first bitmap, but on the top of the view, and after then they are jumping in their right position after the first bitmap. This is visually very disturbing. How can I achive, that the activities appear immediately at the right position How know the activities, that they should jump after the bitmap I call only PaintContainedDesigners(e) of the SequentialWorkflowRootDesigner without extra positioning. I use SuspendLayout and ResumeLayout for the parent control(m_CanvasControl) of the WorkflowView during the loading.     - CoUnmarshalInterface fails with E_ACCESSDENIED across machines in different domains I have an application on XP SP2 that marshals an object into a memory stream via CoMarshalInterface with MSHCTX_DIFFERENTMACHINE (and FWIW MSHLFLAGS_TABLESTRONG) sends the data to a remote Vista machine and waits for a connection. The remote machine receives the data and calls CoUnmarshalInterface. Both sides use CoInitializeSecurity with anonymous authentication levels. Both register standard marshallers via CoRegisterPSClsid and CoRegisterClassObject on the fly. It seems CoUnmarshalInterface reads the OXID from the stream and does a LRPC to resolve it, which fails with ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED. Now what's really odd, is that this request never seems to hit wire. I think I've tweaked everything I can think of (RPC Policy settings, DCOM launch limits, Firewall) All of this work fine on XP SP1 (can't test SP2 right now).     - Random Vista crashes d1rk I took your advice, and changed the power settings to "High Performance" To test for a crash, I opened the HEARTS card game and started playing. The computer crashed about 1/2 way through the game. At least on my machine, it did not solve the problem. Nothing seems to stop this damn crashing! Any more ideas. I also adjusted the performance settings, removing all the VISTA "bells and whistles", to ease up on the system resources. This still did not solve this damn crashing problem.     - TC32: Threadhijacker is not causing an instant crash. We have a couple of exes running as servers. One of them is running as a service and with multi-threads. When testing for TC32, I tried with command: threadhijacker.exe /tid:3436 /crash:av /debugpriv This is one of the thread ids and below was the output: Attempting to hijack thread 3436 Causing Access Violation Exception Found Process, ID: 2460 (dec), 0x99C (hex) Code Injected to: 01000000, code injected from: 0010E614 At this stage, I cannot see any event loggings. This service is providing database pipe connections and is with multiple threads. Since the threadhijacker is just injecting to one of the threads, the service is still functioning. Only when I tried to stop or restart the service, I can then get an error message pop up. Also the application error log and the information log from WER will appear in the event log file. I've tried builds and rebuilds 40 ways from Sunday and I still can't seem to get this thing to let me bind two properties of the same type - it just doesn't give me the option.     - Battery not recognized Hi I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 running XP. I can no longer run on the battery. If i press FN + F3 to view battery level nothing shows up. When i go to control panel, power options and power meter tab, it says under the battery picture "not present". When i hit F2 on start up and check the battery meter here it says "not present". Using Dells diagnostic tools, under battery it came up with error code 3600:0123 Left battery bay, battery charger test fail. I checked out this error code and someone had a similar problem and downloaded the latest BIOS. When i download and install the BIOS it gets too a point where it asks for you to connect AC & battery (which i am doing) but goes no further. I do not use ownership actually and unlock flag does not depend on ownership, isn't it 3. Which version are you using In beta 2.2, locking would be enabled only if you use the ctor which takes NameValueCollection parameter. I do not use beta 2.2. As I see the problem is that in function which I override (SaveWorkflowInstanceState) the flag is submitted from runtime and it has a value 0 in my case. ------- >Are you sure the workflow isn't getting reloaded after you call TryUnload Do you have event handlers on the WorkflowRuntime.WorkflowUnloaded and WorkflowLoaded events I do have handlers for WorkflowUnloaded and WorkflowLoaded and that's indication for me what's going on in the system. I do not have a local physical printer available for testing. You should contact Microsoft Partner for your region for further help. My problem is that I cannot seem to use CreateWindow to create a RichEdit box. My dvd re-writer drive stopped working all of a suddenly. When I went into the device manager it said :

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

What can i do

Hello, This is a software developers application forum for Vista application compatibility issues. I recommend that you try the link below for general software end user problems. In general you should be prepared to have any information about the OS and any other software running on the box including any error message that may have appeared.

You might try contacting the manufacturer and getting an driver that's compatible with Vista (or an update).
