    - Problem installing WSD Printer -> Error 0X00000643 Hi all, Working with some Web Services for Devices stuff, and when I install my printer driver in Vista64 through the Add Printer Wizard the first time, all goes well--the printer is discovered, a WSD Port is created for me, and it pulls-in a driver. However, sometimes when I delete that print object and discover it again later, I get a dialog box showing the cryptic error 0x00000643, with no explanation. One easy way to reproduce this is to discover the printer, then try discovering it again. The Add Printer Wizard craps out with that error. Coupla q's: - Anyone seen this behavior - If so, does anyone know what this error is related to I've turned on all the logging in the print spooler, but I don't see any indications of this error in the System log. - Extra credit--is this cryptic error message just a fact of life, or is there some way to work around it I've tried this in both a Vista64 RTM image and one with all the latest patches--it's consistent.     - Why can't Vista receive multicast, but XP can? I have an application that works fine in XP, which doesn't work in Vista. It has worked without fail on XP for several years now, but will not work at all under Vista. The part that doesn't work is related to receiving multicast packets. Basically we have two devices. One sends out a multicast and the other receives it. The receiver then sends out a multicast packet in response which the original sender should receive. The receiver is a PC with Vista on it, the sender is running the QNX operating system (although the only relevance of that is that it is not running Vista). The problem is that initial message from the sender (QNX) to the receiver (Vista) is not received by the receiver - the method "ioctlsocket" with argument "FIONREAD" returns that 0 bytes of data can be read (this is in a loop that ends when ioctlsocket returns > 0 bytes). Further investigation has shown that the if this step is skipped, the response message from the Vista PC is received correctly by the other device. So, in summary, it appears that Vista cannot receive multicast packets, but can send them. I have tried changing firewall settings, and even turning the firewall off completely. This makes no difference. There is a previous post on this forum about the same problem ( http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx PostID=1092653&SiteID=1 ). However, the root cause of the problem was not actually found. The last post says "I have found the problem, it can receive unicast packets, but can't receive broadcast packet." This is just a description of the problem rather than the cause or solution to the problem. What I really want to know is whether or not this is a "feature" of Vista - perhaps to do with increased security - i.e. no matter what I do I'm not going to get it to receive multicast packets. Or whether this is a "bug" in Vista and may be fixed by an update in the future. Or whether there is an alternative way to get Vista to receive multicast packets.     - Problem Getting the Frame Number... Hello, I am trying to get the current location of DVD Play Back. To achieve this I am using "IDvdInfo2. GetCurrentLocation " method. Using this method I am expecting to get the current frame. In order to step the frames I am using "IVideoFrameStep.Step" methd to step throu the DVD movie. This means I should be able to get the frame number if I step throu the movie and for every step I display the current location of the DVD movie. My finding is that is not the case as the values "timeCode.bHours, timeCode.bMinutes, timeCode.bSeconds, and timeCode.bFrames" of the "IDvdInfo2. GetCurrentLocation " method are refreshed every 14 Frames. This means the display value for the "timeCode.bFrames" which represents the current frame is stocked on the same number till is gets refresh which is every 14 steps.     - My Windows Vista doesn't start up I left my computer on during the weekend and when i came back to work, i restarted the machine and after then the machine doesn't able to start up. I tried to run my vista machine in safe mode, but it still doesn't start...My computer passed the mode options screen and after i selected the boot up mode, it got stuck on the next screen..it displays a black screen which displays no error message.     - Help Regarding Making a Video Chat IM Hello, I am developing a video chat IM like MSN Messenger , Skype Video , SightSpeed etc. It is p2p in architecture. After doing a lot of research on video streaming and reading a lot of articles in codeproject, codeguru etc i have come to the final conclusion that directshow is the best solution for this. I am developing the project in C#.Net. I have gone thru the Directshow.net from sourceforge and have found the filters required for capturing live stream from a webcam and show it in a picture box using Ivideowindow interface. Now my problem is -- 1. How to send the video frames as bytes across the network using tcp/udp/or any sockets 2. If iam able to get the bytes then how to convert those bytes back to video format so that it can be showed into a picture box at the receiving client end.     - Audio Device Enumeration inconsistent on Window's Vista Hi, I have build a application which enumerates all the audio devices installed in the system and searches for a particular PnP audio output device. To provide this feature I make use of 'DSPROPERTY_DIRECTSOUNDDEVICE_ENUMERATE_DATA' data structure. I populate this data structure and register it with dsound.dll. As a result of it a callback registered by me is invoked depending upon the number of audio devices present in the system. This approach is working perfectly find in Window's XP and 2K. But on Windows Vista (32 bit) I am facing some unique problems. Though there are 2 audio devices present in my system but sometimes the callback registered is invoked just once. Hence I loss the other device.     - Access Denied insufficient rights This weekend we purchased the toshiba A130 loaded with windows vista. I deleted some of the programs that i wouldn't use and added my printing software with no problems. But when I tried to load my Pinnacle software I received the following message. "Access denied, insufficient rights-to install software you must have administrative rights. Please log on as Administrator and start the installation again." At that time I was the only user and already WAS the administrator. I called toshiba and spent a very long and frustrating time NOT getting helped.     - getting a workflowcompleted before a state change notification from tracking Hello, in my state machine workflow, using the lab's "StateMachineTrackingService", i noticed that i get a "OnInstanceCompleted" just before a "OnStateExecuting" The OnStateExecuting comes from the TrackingService. OnWorkflowCompleted comes from the runtime. Setting breakpoints in the code shows me clearly that the runtime is firing the workflowcompleted before the tracking service gets the OnStateExecuting. Dear all, I'd like to read(decode) pixel values of raw image(.cr2) and modify, and then save(encode) the modified pixel values as same raw image format(.cr2). Now, I successed to decode the raw image file and get the pixel values by using IWICBitmapFrameDecode::CopyPixels. After modifying the pixel values, I tried to write the pixel values as IWICBitmapFrameEncode::WritePixels. But it did not work!! When I tried to above process with *.jpg, it worked!! The function IWICBitmapFrameEncode::WritePixels() returned S_OK!! But when I tried with *.cr2, it returned '-2003292287'!! What I'm missed Could anyone help me please Thank you. Lots of us have started using/implementing UIA and you have built a massive framework to support automation. Now there is MSAA (which is already old, but still isn't dead) and there is UIA which is very new... - Is there a version 2.0 planned (I hope so!) - When will the MSAA functionality be in the UIA so that it can be used transparantly (So that actually MSAA would then not be needed 'anymore') - Is there some site where we can submit bugs to (not here) and feature requests (like on Connect) and participate in the beta of the next version - Do any of the UIA developers, program managers,... have blogs like many other product groups within Microsoft - I can understand that you 'can't' give details on what the next version will include etc, but a rough timeframe would be appreciated. e.g next H1 2008 or...     - Picture taken date missing Hello Windows Vista 32bit Ultimate (German): Sometimes the EXIF-data "date picture taken" (in German "Aufnahmedatum") is empty in Windows Explorer. Escpecially if I edit the JPG-Image with PaintShopPro 11 and save it, the date will be empty in explorer view, but still exists in EXIF-Tags. If I transfer this Picture to another PC with Windows XP, the "date picture taken" still exists. Also if I open the picture with other Programms, the date is ok. Just in explorer its empty.     - CorrelationParameter results in QueueNotFound error I have a sequential workflow with a ReplicatorActivity. The only activity in the replicator is a HandleExternalEvent activity. I use the InitialChildData property of the replicator to make 3 parallel handleExternalEventActivity1 items which receive an event from a web service. The replicator works as expected. When I send 3 web service events they are received and processed (in order) by the 3 parallel handleExternalEventActivity1 activities. (I used the username string at first but changed to integers to see if there was any difference. Nope) I hard code the value that gets passed as correlation parameter to the integer 1. Various queries in the stored-procedures in Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.0\Windows Workflow Foundation\SQL\EN\SqlPersistenceService_Logic.sql are testing whether (dbo.InstanceState.ownerId = @ownerId but also whether the lock is (not) expired !! AND dbo.InstanceState.ownedUntil >= @now) IMO this last check is irrelevant when you already verified that you are the owner of the lock. Here is what happens: I have a state machine workflow with a state containing a delay activity followed by a setState activity. The delay activity idles but tracing shows that my workflow is reloaded from the persistence store !! First the lock times out, then the delay. No loading (at first) because my workflow was already loaded. When the workflow is persisted, it fails due to the 'lock-expired check'. The runtime owns the damn thing !!!!     - Problems Connecting Sample Grabber to Video Renderer I'm trying to build a graph the can do video rendering and capturing. My source is a camcorder I connect it to the "Sample Grabber" then I try to connect to the Video Render. The capture fuctionality works fine but I can not preview the image. If I don't connect to the sample grabber then I can preview the image. I have use this code in Windows 2000 without any prblems. Now I need to port the code to Windows XP the Sample Grabber and Video Render can't connect. I know that Windows XP user VMR7 as default and Windows 2000 uses Video Render as default. I tried using the Video Render in the XP version but I had no luck. Has any one else experienced a similar problem with this Any help would be greatly appeciated.     - E_FAIL with InitializeDiscRecorder My app uses modified bits of the sample code to access IMAPI2. This code is tested and working. I have now upgraded my computer (changed motherboard and DVD burner), and this code is now failing. I get E_FAIL when I call InitializeDiscRecorder. We have done this successfully on Windows 95/98/Me/2000/XP, but on Vista we can't get past the security.     - Restarting interrupted workflow instances I am attempting to build a demonstration of WWF reliability using SQL persistence. The goal is to start a workflow instance, shut down the wf runtime, then to restart the runtime and have it resume the interrupted wf instance. I have a simple sequential workflow that is comprised of a series of activity pairs - one that writes a message to the eventlog log followed by a delay of 30 seconds, followed by another pair, etc. The wf runtime is hosted in a Windows Service which uses a factory class to instantiate workflows. The class uses a workflowtype and an assemblyname to load and start the requested instance. This works as advertised. I am using the out of the box SQL Persistence and Tracking services. I expect the StopRuntime() call to ensure everything is persisted and that upon startup all non-blocked workflow instances and instances for which timers are expired will be loaded and resumed. On my first experiment, I started an instance, saw the first messages in the log and stopped the service. In the database I see the instance - unlocked=1 and blocked=1. This is as expected because it is waiting on a delay. I waited some 10 minutes past the timer expiration and re-started the workflow runtime. It came up cleanly but it didn't resume the wf instance. My second experiment was similar but I instead of stopping and waiting, I quickly bounced the service. It came up cleanly before the timer expired. Still didn't resume the instance. I am wondering if my problem stems from the dynamic loading of the workflows. Perhaps I need code to ensure the assemblies/typeproviders are loaded...So, to test the theory, in the startup, after adding the SQL Persistence and Tracking services, I pre-loaded my known types/assemblies. But though they all loaded as expected, starting the runtime did not load/resume my interrupted workflows. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks Mark Tag: using cardspace from different PC

i was reading about cardspace, but a question came up to me and i couldn't find an answer for it,

if i am using InfoCards to access my email account or any other account, and i wanted to check this account from another computer that doesn't belong to me, what happens then how can i access the accounts without having the InfoCards

You can save your InfoCards and take the .crd file to a different machine.

Unfortunately, that's the only way to share cards across machines at the moment.

You can export the cards and putt it onto a USB thumbdrive or host it on a secure server so that you can retrieve it on other machines.
